The rear trunnion conversion is one of the most technically demanding operations in AK building. Done wrong, it affects receiver geometry, stock fitment, and recoil function. Done right, it opens up a whole new world of configurations.

What Is a Rear Trunnion Conversion?

A rear trunnion conversion replaces your existing fixed-stock trunnion with an alternative trunnion — most commonly to add a side-folding or underfolding stock to a rifle that originally had a fixed stock, or to convert between stock configurations. Common applications include:

• Converting a fixed-stock AKM to accept an underfolding stock
• Installing a Yugo-pattern side folder trunnion
• Converting a Zastava M70 pattern to accept alternative stock options
• Other custom rear end conversions

The Process

We remove the existing rear trunnion, prep the receiver, fit and install the new trunnion, verify geometry and alignment, and test function. All work is performed to Embach Armory’s standard — which means it’s done right or it doesn’t leave the shop.
