This rifle started as a 2004 Russian Izhmash Saiga .308 sporter imported by EAA Corp. of Cocoa, Florida — a decade before the 2014 sanctions ended all Izhmash imports. It has been completely rebuilt by Embach Armory to the folding-stock, AK-100 series configuration Izhmash builds the Saiga-308-1 in for the Russian market, a configuration that was never importable here: 16.25" barrel, 5.5 mm rear trunnion with the AK-100 series side-folding stock, Russian handguards, 100 series front end, Russian military safety, and the correct selector notches and markings. Receiver, barrel, front trunnion, bolt carrier group, gas block, dust cover and side optic rail are the original Russian Saiga .308 components, and the bolt carrier and bolt are numbered to the receiver. This is a Russian rifle brought up to Russian spec, not a parts-bin build — and no more Russian .308 AKs are coming.
Russian Izhmash parts
- 5.5 mm rear trunnion and AK-100 series side-folding polymer stock
- AK-100 series upper and lower handguards
- AK-100 series rear sight leaf, graduated to 10 — correct for the 100 series
- Russian military safety selector lever
IGLIM parts (AK-100 series pattern)
- Front sight block
- Long-collar AK-100 series muzzle brake, removable
- AK-100 series gas tube
- Trigger guard
Custom / U.S. parts
- SMG Co. custom-machined handguard retainer, made for the Saiga .308 heavy barrel profile — a standard AK retainer will not fit this barrel
- Pistol-grip reinforcement plate added to the receiver
- Romanian bakelite pistol grip
- LBE Unlimited G3 fire control group (U.S.-made)
- Two U.S.-made magazines: one CSSpecs steel and one U.S.-made polymer
- 922(r) compliant with 6 U.S.-made parts: LBE trigger, hammer and disconnector; U.S. magazine body, follower and floorplate
Barrel work
- Factory long barrel cut to 16.25" — AK-100 series military length — and crowned on the lathe
- Threaded 24x1.5 RH for the removable 100 series long-collar brake
- Gas port opened to 1.9 mm for the shorter barrel — cycles reliably with any .308 / 7.62x51 ammo
- Front-end components aligned dead square, 90° to the top of the receiver and front trunnion, as on every Embach Armory build — so the gas block sits true and the gas port is fully unshrouded
- Original Saiga .308 gas block retained
- Chrome-lined Russian bore, excellent
Markings
- Clone-correct selector notches cut into the receiver and АВ / ОД selector markings added for the Russian military safety
- All factory Izhmash markings retained: SAIGA-308-1 / САЙГА-308-1, .308 WIN / 7.62x51, Izhmash arrow-in-triangle, EAA import marks
- Bolt carrier and bolt numbered to the receiver
Finish
- Complete strip and refinish: zinc phosphate parkerizing under Russian Black paint, fully cured — the same finish system as the Russian 100 series rifles
- Rear trunnion latch, rear sight leaf and axis pins are parkerized only with no paint over them — correct for factory
